Being left-handed and wearing a right-handed watch is a pain. So, when some 20 years back, my wife (God bless her soul), presented me with a German-made WWII vintage watch, I was quite happy.
It was a Kriegsmarine Alpina KM 592 with the crown on the left side. Purchased at a pawn shop, the watch lasted me 20 years. Finally, when I took it for repairs recently for maybe just 4thor 5thtime, the watch repair centre said they could no longer source the required part for it. My son sold the watch on ebay for €40. I was astonished someone would buy a used watch that could not be repaired.
My son suggested we check out some new watches at Dylan Oaks (North City, Dublin). Sure, they had a fine collection but not one of the watches had a left-handed crown. Seeing my disappointment, my son suggested we check online.
So, a few days later when he was free, we surfed the net using Android TV. At least that way I did not have to squint. Anyway, we visitedcitywatches.ie/ which my son said was the “go to” place for watches.
5 minutes into our search we came across the Diesel MS9 DZ4516 Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch. It looked impressive and more importantly, it was meant for a left-handed person like me. Even the date window was on the left and it had a magnifying lens on top of the date. In a right-handed World, you can’t imagine how difficult it is to find a watch for the left-handed.
The Diesel MS9 DZ4516 Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch had tree sub-dials and one of them (the bottom sub-dial) indicated the time in 24-hour format. Having served in the military, I was used to reading the time in 24-hour format so, this was another thing that I liked about the Diesel MS9 DZ4516 Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch. I had no idea what the other two sub-dials were for but my son said they had something to do with stop-watch functions.
The Diesel MS9 DZ4516 Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch had a street price of €400+ but was being retailed atcitywatches.ie/ for just €157 and free delivery too. Minus the €40 I received for the old watch, at €117, this was an excellent bargain and well within my meagre military pension. So, I asked my son to go ahead and buy it.
Few days later, it arrived and I tried it out. To say that I was impressed would have been an understatement. I wish my wife was alive and with me today, she too would have been happy.
I’m told diesel watches were actually manufactured by a company called Fossil. Frankly, I don’t care. What I do care, is that I found a perfect watch in the DieselMS9 DZ4516Chronograph Quartz Men’s Watch. Moreover, my son set the alarm on the watch so I don’t forget to take the pills. That’s another reason to smile.
