Did you ever try to search for an all-black wrist watch? It’s almost impossible to find a perfect all-black wrist watch and, if you’re looking for a top brand than it’s like “forget it”.
In my part of Ireland, during the season of lent we have several occasions when full black is the norm. My son would be turning 18 in a month and I wanted to present him with a quality full black watch to go with the new 3-piece full black suit I was getting custom stitched for him. How about that uh? A custom stitched suit. But than he was my son and if I may say so, a handsome devil at that.
Anyway, coming back to the search for an all-black wrist watch, I did the usual thing by visiting neighbourhood watch stores and not surprisingly, drew a zip. Oh, they had variations, like black dial with white hands and hour markers and so forth. But all-black? No Sir! Believe me, I even tried the mall a full 40-minute drive.
While I was pondering how to solve the problem, my wife asked if I tried online? God bless her soul; I knew there was a reason why I had chosen her to be my wife. Where she gets these ideas from, I don’t know but she’s intelligent that way. Her dad was intelligent too perhaps his genes uh?
So, when my son wasn’t around, I borrowed his laptop (yea, his prickly about me touching his stuff; college kids what can we say?). Fortunately, he hadn’t changed his password. I logged in and the first thing I see is the picture of his girlfriend. Quite pretty too except she had one tooth missing in the smile. I seemed to recollect it was due to some fall (or so she had said).
Anyway, I surfed the net and searched for “all black men’s watch” The results were not so encouraging because every watch in the universe with anything black in it showed up.
As I was scanning the zillion or so links that Google.com threw up, I came upon a watch description that said Citizen, black dial, black strap … I clicked the link and it opened up to this site:citywatches.ie
“There you are” I said to myself. A perfect black case, black dial, black nylon strap, black hands and black hour markers. It was a Citizen Eco Drive Nylon Strap BM8475-00F Watch. A Citizen. Perfect. I scanned the rest of the technical stuff, 42 mm dia, 100 meter water resistance, luminous .. all good. And even better was the fact that the price of the Citizen Eco Drive Nylon Strap BM8475-00F Watch was marked down to €110 from €259. Of course, my son did not need to know that.
The site had an impressive collection of brands and watches. I realized I should have come here first instead of wasting time visiting neighbourhood watch shops. But better late than never uh? Anyway, without wasting more time, I purchased the Citizen Eco Drive Nylon StrapBM8475-00FWatch and it arrive a few days later. The suit too was picked up shortly thereafter. I’m proud to say my son looked even more handsome than the devil himself. God bless him.
